Exposure limits & oversight

In 2020, during the Covid lockdown on Maui/Pukalani, HI, I began experiencing symptoms that I could not identify. A shaking, tremor, vibration like sensation that did not let up. Over the next months this sensation was accompanied by severe pain in my chest and lungs and abdomen. I felt as if I were a piece of bacon frying. Both my partner and I had headaches every day in a residence we’d lived for seven years without these symptoms. My pain worsened continuously. I went to neurologists because I thought I might have Muscular Sclerosis because in addition to the pain and shaking, I was constantly falling, had a hard time walking and could not hold things in my hands —for example my keys. I was set for a number of tests all while my symptoms worsened without receiving useful help lessening them until a friend of mine said she felt “fizzy” in my house. She went home and got an EMF meter which measures all three types of electromagnetic pollution: the RF, Magnetic Fields and Electric. I had never heard of this before, but looking at the meter she saw very high numbers for all three. and not just high numbers, but the constant spiking of the frequencies and erraticness of them. We immediately removed the Wifi router, and through research put in dirty electricity blockers, but this was not enough. I took this information to my doctor and luckily he understood this information, but besides what I had already done, and his additional suggestions (move away from cell towers, remove Wifi, and some recommended reading, there wasn’t much help for me. I even wore chainmail as one book mentioned (which I did) — along the lines of wearing a Faraday cage as my symptoms continued until in excruciating pain I woke intending to drive away and get away from the house desperate to find reprieve from my symptoms and I could barely stand and couldn’t hold my keys (let alone drive) and told my partner I needed him to drive me immediately down the hill and I needed to lay on the earth. When we went back to the house I was immediately weakened and could not walk. I spent the next several months laying on the ground on the forest and beach. I could not be in a building or live in my house. Whenever I did the pain became more excruciating including severe pain in my ears and still to this day when I am near a cell tower. It took 2 and 1/2 years to recover and that only happened by seeking out all types of alternative help, living outside for months away from cell towers, WiFi, cell phones, etc and having a Faraday cage built in which I could sleep (though this does not mitigate the magnetic EMF pollution) and now living very remotely without these things , though when my neighbors stay nextdoor at their vacation home, I can feel the WiFi they switch on in their home from inside my home. Living remotely has other hardships. But what I learned was that during the Covid Lockdown/Shutdown, while most things were closed and most people out of work, cell tower companies were installing cell towers all over Maui. Including one 2 blocks from me, across the street from the local highschool. That is what made me sick. And how does one protect themselves from something that has become a necessity for most people? That is prevalent almost everywhere and not going away anytime soon? Aside from needed testing, regulations and control — not to mention safety alternatives implemented and removal of cell towers and WiFi from hospitals, elder care facilities and facilities with children. There is a possibility that the combination of Covid and cell tower proximity/high EMFs created more health complications and deaths during that time. I feel these companies should be held responsible for the illness and displacement their technology causes and there should be designated areas large enough for people with these reactions and symptoms away from this technology. I also thing satellites and satellite WiFi need to be better researched. I believe I would have died had I not found people who identified what was happening and had I not removed myself entirely for as long as possible from EMFs. I had to move out and it is not easy to find housing far enough away from such technology. I believe there should be a way to limit WiFi to a person’s property so it does not reach neighbors who don’t want the health consequences. Also in my research, Cell towers and WiFi can worsen MS and Parkinsons among other illnesses and this shoulf be looked into immediately. Airplanes have high Magnetic fields as well, where once I could walk again, walked onto the plane, but had to be wheel chaired out until i could get away from the high frequencies,

Government has a fundamental duty to protect the public’s health and safety. That duty should come before industry convenience or profit. Laws and regulations governing electromagnetic fields (EMF), radiofrequency (RF), and wireless technology should be based on independent, up-to-date scientific review—not shaped or weakened by the industries they regulate. People should not have to bear potential health risks or losses to their homes and communities without meaningful safeguards. I urge lawmakers to establish clear, enforceable protections that: Require independent assessment of wireless facilities and devices, including cumulative exposures and sensitive locations such as homes, schools, and hospitals. Set exposure limits using transparent, regularly reviewed scientific evidence, with appropriate protection for children and other potentially more vulnerable groups. Require public notice, access to monitoring results, and meaningful opportunities for community input before facilities are approved or substantially modified. Preserve local authority to consider siting, safety, and community impacts. Provide a fair process for investigating and addressing documented effects on health, property use, and property values. These protections should be precautionary, transparent, and enforceable. When the evidence is uncertain, government should not simply assume that the public must accept the risk. It should require independent review, disclose the evidence, and put people’s health and homes ahead of industry interests.

Current permitted levels of RF radiation violate Americans with Disabilities Act! Growing number of people have developed a disability - sensitivity to EMF aka Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS) aka EMR Syndrome. I am one of them. When I am close to wireless devices or cell phone towers I experience severe pain, fatigue, cardiac issues. It feels like you live in a microwave prison. You are tortured and unable to participate in the society, access goods and services without getting harmed. You can’t go to places that have WiFi or in vicinity of cell phone towers which is almost everywhere now: - Schools and offices - Doctor’s offices, hospitals - Public transportation - Hotels - Stores etc. I drive a 12-year-old car. You can’t turn off all wireless features in newer cars – satellite connection, radars detecting lines etc. It became extremely hard to find a home with low RF radiation levels. Every trip into “civilization” is a torture even with multiple layers of EMF protective clothing. A lot of children are becoming sensitive to EMF. I have following suggestions on how to address man-made EMF induced health crisis: - Transfer responsibility for establishing safe EMF levels from FCC to HHS - Establish RF limits similar to Building Biology Institute – less than 0.1 μW/m² - Ban Smartmeters, 5G and any future Gs, WiFi in public places including schools - Repeal Telecommunications Act - Accommodate disabled with EHS by creating no-wireless radiation zones in every metro area – no cell phone towers/radio towers/Smartmeters/wireless devices - Ban Starlink until proven safe - Create guidelines on diagnosing EHS, provide education to doctors on this condition - Fund research on how to decrease symptoms of EMF sensitivity - Order Telecom industry to create a fund to pay for damages to victims harmed by wireless radiation.

I am reporting our experience of adverse health effects and its effect on our lives as individual consumer, patient and family member. 11 years ago my teenager developed sensitivity to mobile phones, Wi-Fi, smart meters and wireless infrastructures. She became aware of it gradually. She had a party trick where she asked her friends to turn their cell phones on or off while her eyes were closed and she would tell them which it was with 100% accuracy. It did not stay benign, however. Her school’s infrastructure was wireless, classrooms had full complements of chromebooks, and all her classmates had cellphones on. My daughter began to have headaches, heart palpitations, irregular breathing, nosebleeds, pain, brain fog, exhaustion, and an inability to string sentences together in the school environment. She was an excellent student who enjoyed school. My husband is a high school physics teacher so bought quality meters to measure various frequencies in different environments. All of our daughter’s symptoms correlated to exposure to high levels of RF/EMF. We started spending a lot of time in large parks, at Lake Michigan, camping, and her symptoms would ameliorate and she would be her normal strong energetic self. We got her a full work-up at her doctor’s but everything came back normal. Her heart irregularities were so concerning, we took her to Lurie Children’s Hospital - a premier children’s hospital in Chicago but got no answers. There was nothing structurally wrong with her heart, and she was told to increase her water and salt and decrease her stress for the palpitations. Her symptoms developed to the point that she could no longer tolerate being in the school building. She had to withdraw from her high school in her second semester of senior year and was unable to graduate with her class. At home, we wired our computers, turned off our wifi router, kept our cell phones on airplane mode, and hired building biologists for anything we were missing. I also developed headaches, fatigue, and brain fog in buildings with wifi, including doctors’ offices and hospitals. My cheeks flush and tingle and feel like they are sunburned. When I return home, I feel exhausted. When I use my cellphone, my hand aches. The difference is that I can still function in these environments as long as I am not in them all the time. In addition, by the time I became sensitive to RF/EMF radiation, I already had my education, work experience, and had experienced a full life. All this happened in Chicago. Unfortunately, Chicago put 5G on so many intersections, that we found ourselves housebound. A second daughter also started to develop sensitivity in her early teens and started having to drop out of all her many activities. We moved semi-rurally. We use a landline at home and wired computers. We love our tech but it has to be wired. We pay $115.77 every month EXTRA on our electrical bill in order to OPT OUT of a smart meter. That’s almost $1400 extra every year because we have an unrecognized disability. The health ramifications have been life altering. It is very difficult to peel back any symptoms even living in a house with low levels of RF/EMF. We have to buy older cars without bluetooth or other accessories and I don’t use gps on my phone when I travel. I keep my cellphone on airplane mode and check in at different times during the day. Our cellphones are older models with less radiation and do not always support updated apps so we are unable to access our banking app for example. Currently, my 2 affected children are both young adults. Neither one can spend time near cell-towers, high power lines, people with cell phones on, 5G, buildings with wi-fi infrastructure. This has severely impacted their daily lives as well as their ability to have friends, find employment, and pursue education. It is very difficult to access dental and medical care as they cannot tolerate the long appointments. They cannot travel or spend time with their grandparents in retirement centers. Their employment prospects are dismal. They can work from home with wired computers but this still means complete industries are closed to them. In addition, many places require you to work in person before working remotely. Besides being a huge loss to them individually, it is also a loss to the nation of smart, hardworking young people who can’t contribute to the economy or the community. My other children volunteer, work, are Eagle Scouts, in community theater and bands, attending college - all activities denied to my 2 who have been made ill by high levels of RF/EMF. Medical practitioners need accurate information, as do school counselors and mental health practitioners, schools and communities that include children need to know about the adverse health effects of high levels of RF/EMF radiation. The testing of safe levels needs to address children and women as well as how the devices are actually used, including the length of time.

I am an individual whose life and health have been dramatically affected by EMF sensitivity. After exposure to a water damaged building, I became more sensitive to all forms of radiation. Symptoms have been: Insomnia, sensitivity to the sun, neurological and balance issues, numbness and tingling, nervous system dysregulation, heart palpitations, heat flushing, extreme brain fog, inability to be on my phone or laptop for long periods of time, and resulting loss of relationships and loved ones who didn’t believe because there is no mainstream credible education to support this reality. I was unable to work for two years and had to leave my home, largely relying on being outdoors as that was the only environment my body could tolerate. Riding in vehicles also became impossible. My hope is that this issue will be taken seriously and more medical education and regulation will exist. Sincerely, a person who has lost everything due to this issue.

I am the Board Secretary of the nonprofit, Community and Friends of Seattle-Tacoma Pet Cemetery, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. I am writing as an individual to provide my comments today. I am an advocate for the historic Seattle-Tacoma Pet Cemetery est. 1950 on Kent’s West Hill in unincorporated South King County in a community of color, immigrants, refugees, and low income housing in Kent, Washington. A 100-foot industrial AT&T cell phone tower was installed by Crown Castle inside active Burial Block 13 with graves and mourners just over 115 feet from the neighbors in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic in the wrong zone without a conditional use permit in violation of King County Code and Washington State cemetery law. It is dangerously close, illegal, unlawful, and unethical. It is damaging to the sacred burial grounds and is physically, mentally, and emotionally damaging. Not to mention it is aesthetically ugly and spiritually cruel to the living and to our beloveds. Humans, pets, K-9 officers, and service animals for the blind are all buried here, some as whole families. Crown Castle did not disclose human burials here and the historic significance of the historic cemetery here on the application. They railroaded it through the King County Permit department. Cemeteries function as a sacred space, regardless of a cemetery patron or visitor’s religious background. A cemetery is intended to be a place removed from the noise, hustle. Commercial infrastructure as a cell tower is, is an intrusion of a sacred burial ground meant for honor and memory. Radio frequency radiation exposes harm to people and animals who are mourning their loved ones. Cell towers take away the calm and harmonious space that it was meant to be in perpetuity. We want responsible placement of cell phone towers. We are not against cell towers and advocate for the safe and appropriate placement of cell towers — not here! Additionally, as a public schools educator, board certified in special education, I am against cell phone towers near schools because they raise valid safety concerns for children and the staff that work with them. Research notes that children absorb more radio-frequency radiation due to their developing bodies which exposes them to long-term health problems such as cancer and neurological symptoms. Since forced to have wifi water meter st home by the city of wood dale, illinois im always fatigued at home. Cant sleep. I feel better after hours outside home in a park. My health is bad at home. Before this i was ok with analog comed electricmeter and ethernet. Its not right! City said they dont care and radiation is minimal and no chance to normal meter. They were going to shut off our water otherwise. They dont care if im sick.

My comment discusses the profound impacts of both magnetic/electric fields and radiofrequency (RF) radiation on my daily life, my health symptoms experienced, and personal management strategies. Key recommendations include improving real-world exposure level transparency, lowering exposure standards especially for high risk individuals, recognizing EHS as a medical condition, and addressing cumulative exposure risks. My friend was severely harmed by a Wi-Fi router installed in his home without his consent. He was severely impacted. Time away from the home he improved and then repeated exposure impacted him again. He removed the Wi-Fi router and reinstalled his wired router but then other family members kept reinstalling the Wi-Fi because they said it was not the cause of his problem because it was within FCC guidelines and also the internet company that kept reinstalling the Wi-Fi router told the family it was "safe". This happened several times by going against his wishes and deceitfully putting Wi-Fi back. The Wi-Fi pulsed modulated radiation was the agent of harm and my friend knew it but was his wishes were not respected. This is a tragedy with the consequences of a very sad outcome from a product put in his home without his consent that had harmful biological effects. Request is to have all devices, products with radio frequency to inform the risks and get consent before selling or installing such products. Industry needs to take responsibility to inform and not deny harm when the research shows the mechanisms of harm from pulsed modulated microwave radiation and be held accountable. Education to the public to raise awareness of the harms would be helpful and put some responsibility back on the persons that deny that microwave radiation is harmful without doing the research.
