The commenter requests equal disability accommodations for electromagnetic sensitivity, low-exposure room…

ORIGINAL COMMENT · UNEDITED TEXT
Dear Sirs/Madams, I am requesting that the same level of consideration be given to persons with the functional impairment of electromagnetic sensitivity that would be accorded to any other disabled person. I know that doing so would disrupt great plans, but workarounds have been found for people with other disabilities. The argument that electromagnetic sensitivity does not exist and is just a figment of the sufferers imagination has been debunked numerous times. I attach two studies that I have on hand. I also request that the health of children, in particular, be considered in the deployment of wireless equipment. Prof. Oleg Grigoriev of Russia's committee on non-ionizing radiation protection has said that, while he does not oppose the use of wireless communication, every home should have at least one room with low levels, and that room should be the children's room. Children should also limit the amount of time they spend engaging in high-exposure activities. Wired Internet connections can be installed in schools to reduce children's exposure there. Thirdly, the environment needs to be considered. We face an extinction crisis due to many factors, all of which come back to human activities. I have witnessed a stepwise reduction of biodiversity in my neighborhood as new radiating infrastructure is introduced. The most notable reductions occurred shortly after smart electric meters were installed in the neighborhood and after 5G transmissions began. I attach my most recent observations in rural Japan, which include links to similar observations elsewhere. Most importantly regarding the future of our environment and humanity itself, people are noting a loss not only of pollinators, but of pollen itself, resulting in failure to fruit and sterile seeds when they do develop. The use of wireless radiation should take the environment into consideration and be limited to local urban centers, again ensuring that the full range of necessary services are available to persons who cannot tolerate or who should otherwise be protected from high-EMR environments.

The commenter reports diagnosed EMF sensitivity, device-related pain and disabling vertigo and headaches …

ORIGINAL COMMENT · UNEDITED TEXT
The last few years I've had a decline in my health due to EMF exposure. The first thing I noticed was pain when holding my cell phone, or being on the computer. It took me about 1 and 1/2 years to figure out what was causing the issues by process of elimination. I was working from home until March of this year, when I lost the ability to be on my computer from extreme vertigo, and headaches due to emf exposure. There is also a 5g tower right down the street from me, and my digital emf device readings are dangerously high, only a few feet from my home. The only thing that has truly helped is avoidance, and hardwiring my house. I was seeing a doctor and diagnosed with extreme emf sensitivity.

A taxi driver reports pain, disorientation and other symptoms near transmitters, describes observations i…

ORIGINAL COMMENT · UNEDITED TEXT
**Europe, Slovakia, Bratislava** Dear Sir or Madam, I am a 52-year-old woman and I currently work as a taxi driver in our city. I am writing to share my experiences with 5G, 6G and Wi-Fi, because there are also people in America who come from our region or have ancestors from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Croatia, Serbia, Russia, and other countries. I want other people to be protected as well. In our city, there are 5G transmitters almost every three houses. **My personal experience — I have also asked my passengers about theirs:** Near these transmitters, I experience tingling in my limbs, burning sensations and pain in my bones, joints and spine, difficulty concentrating, disorientation, and overheating — as if I were boiling from the inside. I sometimes even feel faint. Other people experience similar symptoms. It seems to depend on the frequency being used. I also have a Geiger counter to check my observations. It registered high radiation readings, reaching the alarm level. In another part of the city, people experience headaches, depression and suicidal thoughts. Elsewhere, people suffer from abdominal pain, have to make frequent trips to the toilet, or experience burning sensations in their respiratory tract. The intensity of this radiation fluctuates in sinusoidal waves. For a short while, I have to breathe through the pain; then I feel better for a moment, and it starts all over again. I have difficulty walking from one end of the street to the other. Yet when I get into a car and drive into an area where this radiation no longer reaches, I have no pain at all. I feel completely fine. This happens to us several times a day, especially at night. In places where the radiation intensity increases, I have noticed frequent car accidents. I have also noticed frequent abnormal swelling of a single limb in people and domestic animals, particularly dogs. The lymphatic system does not appear to function properly. Under the influence of this radiation, people and animals seem unable to defend themselves against ordinary bacteria. Overall, everyone's health appears to be deteriorating. Wi-Fi is the same, since it involves the transmission of microwaves. This is not the way forward. It is a path to disaster. It would be better to provide high-speed internet through fibre-optic cables. Wireless transmission should be kept to the absolute minimum necessary — 4G or lower. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your understanding. I hope this will help us find relief from this suffering.

The commenter describes sleep and cognitive symptoms and barriers to work, housing and services attribute…

ORIGINAL COMMENT · UNEDITED TEXT
Thank you to HHS for examining this urgent issue. I am commenting as someone who has studied the cautioning peer-reviewed research meticulously for many years. I know a growing range of individuals who are functionally disabled by rising wireless radiation pollution with far-reaching negative impacts on their lives, including loss of access to everyday services plus deepening social isolation. I too have experienced some deleterious health effects personally from exposure, including two years of extreme sleep starvation that was unresponsive to all measures other than eventual wireless radiation mitigation when, after the two years, I discovered from records and measurements that (i) symptom onset had coincided with simultaneous wireless makeovers at work and home, and additionally (ii) the highest level of cell-tower (mast) radiation in our home was in our main bedroom, precisely over my pillow. I continue to be prone to dizzy headaches, loss of cognition, and sleep impairment from wireless-radiation pollution. Life impacts have included loss of work, having to move house, and difficulty accessing shops, events, social groups, and medical services: typically, for example, I have to wait outside clinics rather than in waiting rooms and sometimes have to leave appointments early; I am similarly unable to linger in shops, social spaces, or public transport crowded with smartphones and/or WiFi or DECT transmitters. I suspect that those who have uncovered their relative sensitivity to the growing pollution are but the “tip if the iceberg” and that, as with all environmental toxins, there is a bell-curve of impairment across the wider populace with more individuals losing quality of life as the pollution intensifies. As you examine peer-reviewed evidence of harm, notice oxidative / nitrosative damage to cells and tissue – a frequent finding and risk factor for degenerative diseases – and also that the pulsed, polarized, variable nature of wireless outputs adds to their biological effects (Panagopoulos et al)1. Remember that the (outdated) “safety standards” normally refer to single-source exposures and that the young, sick, pregnant, or elderly, and other vulnerable groups, are now besieged on all sides. Less toxic technologies using, for example, state-of-the-art cable and (subject to biological safety testing) modulated light offer inspiring ways forward but humankind is tragically mired in outdated paradigms and addictions that are driving up the pollution while divorcing us from the unmediated beauty of the non-virtual world, at profound cost to body and soul – Lynne W. 1: see Panagopoulos, D. The commenter reports diagnosed electromagnetic hypersensitivity after an electrical incident, describes …

ORIGINAL COMMENT · UNEDITED TEXT
I have been personally affected by my cell phone, computer and wireless radiation since January of 2019 when I had an “electrical accident” in my home office. Since then, when I touch my cell phone or use my laptop, I get these symptoms: tingling on the tip of my tongue that spreads further back toward my throat, my lips swell, nausea, swelling in my joints, ...until I stop using the device. The cell phone impacts me extremely quickly, just by touching the front of it, and I often get a pulse through my arm. Awhile back, I began to get a lump in my breast. It was right where I could feel the signal from my fingers on the cellphone to my breast. This lump kept increasing in size until I went to the doctor and showed her. It felt important that a medical person see the lump and record it in my health records. Realizing the cell phone seemed to be causing the lump, I stopped using it for 4 days until the limp went away. I can only use a computer for a short time before these reactions occur and nausea sets in. I have friends for whom the reaction is a lightning bolt headache that lasts many days, burning skin and worse. I have also had tinnitus since this occurred. It is loud and affecting my hearing. Hearing aids will be necessary, and you know what they cost, but I can’t have wireless hearing aids which are now wireless or have a battery, something I also can’t tolerate at close range. In the "electrical accident," I was using my computer with the wireless on and charging my cellphone in the same unit of 4 outlets. I was back and forth using the computer and the cell phone when I needed to text/make/take a phone call. Suddenly, tingling began on my tongue, and my lips swelled. I have been told that my hands on both the keyboard and the cell phone at the same time completed something like a closed circuit, charging my body. Since that time, I have had this sensitivity. My doctor and my chiropractor both diagnosed it as Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity. My MD says I am something of an antenna now, possibly exacerbated because we all have metals in our bodies from environmental pollutants. There are costs associated with being electrically sensitive. I cannot have wireless on in my home and must hardwire my laptop. Wireless is free, and cell data, which I am forced to use, is expensive. I purchased a good meter, between $350 and $800. My RF/EMF meter told me there is no place is my home that is really safe enough to sleep on a regular basis and I had to invest in some very expensive shielding material ($1500.00) that shuts out radiowaves in my bedroom. I need to hire a Building Biologist to determine what about my home makes the sensitivity worse. This hire is expensive ($800-1000.00) as well as costs for anything that person determines I must do to mitigate my exposure. I have great concerns (terrified, really) about 5G and all that will come in the future. Smart meters aren't local yet, but we have gotten the dreaded letter saying they are putting them on houses now. These must be studied as they emit huge amounts of strong radiation and will be installed right on our homes. They also put dirty electricity into our wiring, and I and some others react to that. I actually have to turn off the circuit to my bedroom when I sleep so I don’t get a killer headache. What else is forced on us this way? Please let us have free meters on our homes for water, electricity and gas. The more radiation we add to the environment, the more people will be negatively affected. Please study the effects of the enormous amount of cumulative radiation in the air in towns wiht strong wireless infrastructure and those with little. We have seen huge differences. Please study the effect on children, wildlife, the elderly and immuno-compromised. Our lives are in your hands. Please protect us and keep services people-centered not profit driven. Thank you so much! ~ Upton, MA

The commenter reports neurological and pain symptoms around wireless devices and hybrid vehicles, describ…

ORIGINAL COMMENT · UNEDITED TEXT
I am a mother submitting this comment in response to HHS's Request for Information on Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs), Radiofrequency (RF) Radiation, and Wireless Radiation Exposure. I am writing as a parent and consumer. Below I describe what my husband and I have experienced: the exposure, the symptoms, what we changed, and what happened. I cannot prove cause, but the pattern is consistent. We should not have to guess whether any of these are connected. It is also worth stating that I founded a company that makes EMF-shielding apparel for women, which I started because of my experiences below. My exposure: In 2020, when I started working from home during the pandemic, I suddenly spent hours a day with a wireless laptop on my lap and my phone within reach. Symptoms: Within months, I developed tingling and numbness in my face and lips, joint pain that radiated up my arms, trouble concentrating, impaired memory, severe panic attacks, and poor sleep. My general practitioner listened to my symptoms and recommended antidepressants. When the pain in my hands became unbearable, I saw a rheumatologist for testing. She didn't find arthritis but offered to prescribe painkillers, which I declined. What I changed: I took the laptop off my lap, wired my computer and TV, kept my phone off my body and out of reach, used airplane mode often, turned off Bluetooth and WiFi on devices that didn't need them, and turned off the WiFi router at night. Result: My symptoms eased to a manageable level. They return when I hold a Bluetooth device against my body and when I spend time in high-EMF environments, like airports and homes run by smart home systems. My exposure: Driving and riding in our two 2026 hybrids, an SUV and a crossover. Symptoms: Immediately, I experience severe aching and burning in my hands and feet, nausea, fatigue, intermittent shooting pains in my abdomen and chest, and a short-circuiting feeling in my brain when I try to finish a sentence. What I changed: I drive as little as possible and rent a gas-powered car for any drive longer than 20 minutes. After parking, I ground myself as soon as I can. Result: My symptoms fade slowly after I turn off the car and get out, and they ease noticeably faster when I ground. My husband’s exposure: Sleeping with wireless earbuds in. Symptom: A lump about the size of a dime under his ear. What he changed: He stopped wearing earbuds to bed. Result: The lump went away. I support HHS examining the health impact of wireless radiation, and ask that HHS treat children and pregnant women as distinct populations in its research priorities. Research priorities include long-term studies of children exposed from birth; pregnancy and reproductive outcomes; the health effects of cell towers near homes and schools, and how that evidence should guide where towers are allowed; exposure in schools and vehicles; and the effects of 5G and 6G on our health and the environment. The experiences of individuals and families who report being affected by, or who are concerned about, potential health effects from EMF, RF, and wireless radiation exposure should be considered alongside the scientific evidence, to help identify gaps in current research and to establish appropriate safety parameters for wireless radiation and public health. Thank you for including individuals and families in your request for information.

ORIGINAL COMMENT · UNEDITED TEXT
First, thank you for opening doors to this discussion. In 2014, Rudolf Steiner Books published my book, An Electronic Silent Spring. It cited 200+ peer-reviewed studies about the biological effects of exposure to electromagnetic radiation (EMR) emitted by wireless devices and telecom infrastructure. First person accounts related to these studies. It reported the 1996 Telecom Act’s Section 704; the FCC’s definition of “harmful interference” (interference with existing broadcasts—NOT biology; FCC’s 2013 reclassifying the outer ear as an extremity so that mobile devices near it are allowed a Specific Absorption Rate of 4.0 W/kg, higher than the 1.6 W/kg allowed for non-extremities such as the head. Solutions included Whitney North Seymour’s amendment to Section 704. Dr. Gary Olhoeft advised me. He taught electrical engineering and geophysics at Colorado School of Mines for decades. In 2009, he got a deep brain stimulator (DBS) to ease his Parkinson’s symptoms—and experienced significant interference between his DBS and EMR-emitting devices. About 10% of Americans have a medical implant. Fewer than 0.5% of these devices have been tested in rigorous clinical trials. “Implantable Material and Device Regulation” Sept. 2021, Vol. 23, No. 9; E667-756, AMA Journal of Ethics. https://journalofethics.ama-assn.org/sites/joedb/files/2021-08/joe-2109_2.pdf How do EMR emissions from mobile phones, laptops, iPods, cellular antennas, smart utility meters, Wi-Fi, e-vehicles and transformers affect medical implants (deep brain stimulators, cardiac pacemakers, orthopedic devices, cochlear implants, continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps) and people with implants? Here are a few related studies: Implanted medical devices in workers exposed to radio-frequency radiation (B. Hocking, 1991). In creating discussion about the effects of EMR exposure, what are your goals? While everyone lives with laws that make environment (and health) considerations illegal, landlines are being eliminated, and more cell towers, smart meters, chromebooks and e-vehicles are deployed we need education about living with EMR exposure. We need to learn and respect nature’s cycles and to care for ourselves in EMR-saturated environments. We need forums that welcome questions; statutes that respect biological impacts; and opt-outs.

ORIGINAL COMMENT · UNEDITED TEXT
5G towers should not be by residential areas, schools, hospitals, stadiums or anywhere ppl are going to be. This technology is a weapon and it's sickening how many I see along freeways. We had fast internet BEFORE these towers went up! Why do we even need these things? Also, there's a problem with WIFI in the home and companies like COMCAST making it very strong so it becomes a network hotspot for cars driving by. This creates a dangerous level of EMF in the home and can accelerate toxic mold growth. Furthermore, people should be ENCOURAGED to not wear "wearables", to turn their phone on airplane mode as much as possible, talk with a speaker, wire their internet with ethernet, get rid of smart meters, install landlines (and make REAL landlines common and affordable again!) . At the very least, households should be encouraged to TURN OFF their internet routers at night to give their bodies a break from the constant electromagnetic pollution.
