As Commercial Radio Communications Technician I wanted to suggest a couple experiences I have witnessed.
This comment is by no means formal and I want to apologize for that. This is a simple example of my personal experiences as an individual installing commercial wireless network.
I want to express concerns and exposure experiences about 4G/5G wide band equipment in close proximity. Personally I dread when an issue happens involving starlink antenna systems. As an installer a latency test must be performed for best antenna alignment in general. This pertains to Starlink WAN antennas and cellular omni systems. My personal exposure to these systems is weekly. As i primarily operate vhf systems below 50 watts.
Now with some context I just want to offer my exposure experiences. Wide band antenna systems with diversity antennas are a moderate concern personally. It is very common to experience short term memory loss for 5G in my experience personally. Almost brain fog as working and alignment of wide antennas. Another type of exposure I have personally involves smart meter RF in close proximity to where I sleep. It is very common to have an insomnia feeling as the smart meter is 6’ away on the outside wall from my bedroom pillow. We are unable to opt out of smart meter living in rural Pennsylvania.
The reason for this comment is with the new satellite spectrum licensing proposed by the FCC happening. As a commercial installer it is very common to align starlink antennas for best latency testing. In doing so I personally have had my face near this equipment and I can say I have received a microwave effect to my head. This feeling is not so much warm but once you feel it you will avoid it at all costs. It causes instant discomfort and specifically to the crown of my skull. I really appreciate this agency opening for public comment. I think the ultra wide band measures taken by the FCC may be misconstrued by SPCX valuations. Personally this is a warning to anyone reading this never hold one of these 2 devices to your head.

We are tired of feeling sick from exposure to emf, radiation and chemicals in the air. I have a brain tumor I suspect from 5g exposure. I was the first in my family to be exposed to a 5g phone, which I have to use quite alot for work as well as personal use. The tumor is on the same side of my head that I hold my phone. I put my phone in my right pocket, from and back and now have major tendons tearing on my right hip and elbow. I also suspect from my 5g phone. Any area that our phones are on, gets hot.
Our apartment, we had to have 5g router added, wired in the wall. And since it's installment, we have all been sick continuously with headaches, dizziness, nausea, stomach issues, mood swings, immense brain fog, again all ages in our household have been experiencing this. We are bombarded from towers that keep getting put in around us, plus existing towers expanding with more and more attachments. When driving, we literally see these towers every 200 ft. Its ruining the beauty of our state as well as killing us as a species with boat loads of diseases and cancers. We dont want data centers, we dont want or need 5/6g. We really just want to be healthy and you will NOT let us. Enough treating us like peasants and guinea pigs to experiment on!!!
I work in a building directly under a 5G Verizon tower. We are renters and it is literally on the roof above my office. Almost all of my coworkers and myself get brain fog at work that we don’t get at home. My bosses recently hired an independent RF tester who confirmed the levels were unsafe. Our landlord denies this and has sent their lawyers to deal with my bosses. They don’t want to modify the lease to allow us out of it early.
This is a pretty big deal for us right now, I guess. I really wish there were more and better reliable studies about how this affects people. I’ve been working here for three years: is Verizon damaging my body?
My husband and I are among those who must wear stealth EMF-blocking hats during air travel. Without them, we become severely fatigued, experience brain fog, and are much more susceptible to colds, influenza, and similar illnesses. My husband travels frequently for work and must shield himself; otherwise, he is susceptible to the same effects which impede his work and health.
In hotels, Airbnbs, and on cruise ships, sleep is often disrupted when we sleep near the electrical outlets typically placed by the headboard or head of the bed. We therefore travel with aluminum foil and tape so we can shield ourselves. This necessity is not widely recognized but again, effects can be felt without it.
Sleeping near a Wi-Fi router, a utility smart meter on an exterior wall, or similar sources produces the same symptoms. We must also avoid sleeping near our smartphones at night.
As RV snowbirds, we have had to forgo lots near cell towers, WiFi routers or electrical lines, because proximity to them can make us ill.
Shielding ourselves in this way is an unwelcome task that takes considerable time and energy, but the alternative has been poor health. I often carry a GQ Tri-Field EMF Radiation Detector to corroborate our experience. As someone who has lived with chronic illness for twenty years, I am encouraged that you are taking this seriously.
Occupational RF Exposure Versus General-Public Exposure
An essential distinction in evaluating the potential health effects of radiofrequency electromagnetic energy is the difference between occupational exposure in the immediate vicinity of transmitting antennas and the comparatively low-level exposure ordinarily experienced by the public.
During my telecommunications career, I have participated in radiofrequency exposure compliance activities, antenna-site safety evaluations, transmitter power measurements, and FCC regulatory compliance involving both government and civilian communications systems.
These activities require an understanding that transmitter output power alone does not establish the magnitude of human exposure. Actual exposure depends upon operating frequency, effective radiated power, antenna gain and radiation characteristics, proximity to the radiating elements, exposure duration, and other site-specific engineering factors.
At certain high-power transmitting facilities, RF field strengths in close proximity to transmitting antennas may exceed established occupational or general-public exposure limits. Such conditions warrant appropriate engineering controls, restricted access, warning signage, and established safety procedures.
However, the locations in which these elevated exposure levels occur are generally limited and are not representative of the exposure conditions experienced by individuals living or working in surrounding communities.
In properly designed and operated transmitting facilities, elevated RF exposure areas are ordinarily identified through engineering evaluations and controlled through physical separation, access restrictions, operational procedures, or other appropriate safeguards.
The existence of potentially hazardous exposure conditions immediately adjacent to transmitting antennas should not be extrapolated to suggest that ordinary environmental exposure from cellular networks, Wi-Fi access points, Bluetooth devices, or low-power Internet of Things equipment presents an equivalent risk.
From an engineering perspective, this distinction is fundamental. RF exposure should be evaluated through scientifically established measurement methods and applicable exposure limits, rather than inferred from the presence of an antenna, the number of wireless devices in an area, or the nominal power rating of a transmitter.
Public health policy should recognize the substantial differences between controlled occupational environments involving potentially elevated RF field strengths and the considerably lower exposure levels ordinarily encountered by the general population.
Dear HHS,
I am writing to ask that the affects of wireless radiation are fully studied on how they affect the human body, wildlife and environment in general. This HAS to be done to ensure the human population is not more negatively affected by this technology. I know from personal experience how this has affected my family.
The use of computers, pads and phones has greatly impacted my husband. He no longer is able to sleep deeply or for long periods of time. At most he gets four to five hours of interrupted sleep and that also greatly affects me! His job mandates the use of all this technology unfortunately. It has basically ruined his sleep which is also impacting his health in general as many many studies have proven about lack of sleep.
The other impact this technology has had on our family is either my grandchildren. One parent works from home so there are more computers and screens and wireless boosters in their home than normal. I can see how it affects their behavior (they are much more agitated on days we have to play indoors!) and neither of them sleep well. It breaks my heart to see this is how they are growing up.
PLEASE do the independent research and do NOT be influenced by big these wireless companies and their profits. You were hired to work and protect us not them!
Thank you,
Kathy Kuflewski
I highly recommend and ask that you all do research into the workers who are exposed to this RF on a daily basis. As someone who used to work on cell phone towers there would be days that equipment was pointed right at us from an adjacent tower and we could taste metal in our mouthes, sometimes get terrible headaches, sometimes even ringing in the ear. As to whether or not it’s harmful to the daily person not as close to the antennas, I’m not sure but research most certainly should be done into the workers who are around them all the time. I’m 25 and got out of the industry due to lack of RF and other safety regulations but hearing some of the stories from folks who have been in longer made me wonder and reconsider what I was doing for work. If you all would like to speak with some more climbers please reach out to Climber Protection Group, we’d be happy to provide more information.
I work for a telecommunications company who does allow me to work near 5G antennas while they are powered on. In fact, I am giving a device that detect the 5G. I am told it’s for my safety and had to take a training on it.
Lots of veterans served in the Iraq and Afghan wars. These soldiers and sailors served with high powered radios in vehicles alongside electronic warfare equipment that was meant to suppress radio and other waves. Lots of men developed cancer. Weird cancers I’ve never heard of like stage 3 follicular and lots of men became apparently infertile or only seem to have daughters. I think that there is constant damage to the service members in these vehicles and units that are around them, along with people that live near high powered power lines.
