Reports lingering visual disruption from LED headlights and requests an unbiased safety study and manufac…

ORIGINAL COMMENT · UNEDITED TEXT
I am commenting specifically about LED headlights which are absolutely blinding and dangerous especially on Tulane roads. The brightness is so harsh that if I keep my eyes directly ahead of me while driving, the lights from an oncoming car leave a burnout in the left side of my field of vision that takes 10 to 15 seconds to dissipate. Of course they light up the path in front of you very well for the driver but that is a trade-off that we cannot have if we are making the driver’s view brighter by blinding oncoming drivers. I want whatever section of the government is responsible for these lights to do a thorough unbiased study not influenced by auto manufacturers or politics and if the conclusion is that these lights are dangerous to other drivers, the manufacturers of vehicles using LED lights must cover the full cost of retrofitting every vehicle.

LED Headlights are too intense - they blind drivers - especially when the oncoming car is coming up an incline, the cutoff is not low enough to prevent the intense light hitting the driver's eyes. After market LED headlights should be banned and enforced with a much bigger effort - they are blinding at all times they do not have a cutoff point. Cars and trucks that are loaded in the rear cause the LED lights to be even worse. The auto dim feature activates too late in most cases -as with hills and curves.

To whom it may concern, Current new cars have such bright headlights, that you are blinded day & night. Cars are running with the brights on during a sunny day. Lights are so bright, that you cannot even see their turn signals in use. Even worse with high trucks and SUVs against regular sized cars. By now US car manufacturers should have a way to auto dim the lights during the day and when approaching oncoming traffic. Europe has new regulations for smart headlight systems. Describes blue-white headlights obscuring pedestrians, cyclists and oncoming-traffic cues, with added dif…

Bright blue-white headlights make driving more stressful and difficult, even at 35. They crowd out all other information, meaning that it's harder to see anything at all behind them including pedestrians or bicyclists. They make gauging the speed of oncoming traffic more difficult to assess. Bigger vehicles with these lights are also set high enough that their headlights shine directly into a regular car's windshield, and automatic systems are no help for that. The automatic systems require light from other sources in order to dim themselves, so if the other car has normal headlights the systems are useless. These are not a problem on white headlights without the blue frequency, and yellow headlights are even better. There is something in the blue wavelengths that taxes the eyes more and increases the effort needed to drive safely.

LED lights, including LED headlights, impact my life when I’m driving at night in my older vehicle that does not have LED headlights, I get blinded. These headlights are extremely bright and disruptive to wildlife and their circadian rhythms. The Food and Drug Administration must comply with 21 U.S.C. 360ii to test and evaluate LED headlights for biological safety not only for humans but for wildlife as well.

Supports a ban on high-intensity LED headlights unless strict luminance, beam-cutoff and aftermarket-bulb…

ORIGINAL COMMENT · UNEDITED TEXT
I support a ban on high-intensity LED headlights because their excessive glare has become a major safety hazard on our roads. The intense, blue-rich light emitted by modern LEDs, especially when mounted high on large SUVs and trucks, frequently blinds oncoming drivers, causing painful eye strain and creating dangerous blind spots. While visibility for the driver behind the wheel is important, it should not come at the expense of everyone else's safety. Until strict regulations are enforced to control luminance, fix proper beam cutoffs, and eliminate blinding aftermarket bulbs, these headlights simply do not belong on public roads.

I had to stop driving at night because the LED headlights cause me to not see well enough to not get into an accident. They blind me when they come at me as well as when the LED lights appear in my mirror because someone behind me has them. The brightness of these headlights has gotten ridiculous and they are causing accidents , migraines, and seizures. Please ban them and go back to the original lights. The roads at night right now look like everyone is driving with high beams on. Please make it stop.

A self-described audiovisual professional reports intense headlight glare during early-morning commuting …

ORIGINAL COMMENT · UNEDITED TEXT
Everyday I commute at 5am in the morning. I am 54 years old and have been doing this for 25 plus years. I work in the Audio Video field as an expert professional specializing in video projection, and have watched the technology evolve from xenon bulb to LED and Laser. So I know what im talking about when I say I have noticed a growing trend on the roads. The latest and greatest from the car companies has become the use of LED headlight technology. While the technology is impressively bright it doesnt throw the light out as far as tradition halogen bulbs. So viewing the LED head on at oncoming traffic it is extremely bright. Automotive Manufacturers are haphazardly using this technology with no limits because there a currently no laws regulating LED technology. Oncoming traffic with newer vehicles have very high output of perceived light. As a result I am constantly bombarded by intense light during my morning commutes. The intensity appears to be more prevalent in specific makes and models. Hyundai, Ford, and Subaru appear to have the most extreme outputs followed by the latest Toyota vehicles. As you may know the UK has already begun the legislation process of regulating this technology, and I hope other countries including the U.S. follow suite.

BAN glaring headlights which arec3ven on DAY times..like many people including other members of my family who are much younger than me but have problems with eye 8ssues when subjected to glare I am totally against the led lights blinding vehicles and basically causing all drivers affected to hibernate in months where nights draw in in late afternoon..all my family have now given up night driving in summer and feel cannot drive safely due to vision being compromised by glaring lights in autumn winter . Basically as soon as sun starts to set all year round it's dangerous to drive..it imprison many drivers fir fear of accidents and its those huge unnecessary so cars taking up the width of roads and car parks with high up lights that are worse culprits plus roads are narrower due to bike lanes taking up huge chunks of roads abd bus lanes cropping up everywhere..even more dangerous wet days when glare is even worse due to reflection. All friends and family of ALL ages comment on the lights issues and its restricting lifestyle and imprisoning people in dark by restricting safe driving and affects hospitality as people don't want to go out at night if it entails a drive..pot holes. Huge S U V s.. bike lanes..L plate delivery bikes .. roads carved into with bike and bus lanes making them narrower and those horrific glaring blinding white led vehicle lights.. driving feels hugely restricted by extra danger on roads that wasn't there 6+ years ago
